A rare recording of Wreckage the 0.25-inch reel-to-reel tape made at a rehearsal for the band's debut performance at Ealing College, recorded in Freddie Mercury's flat at 40 Ferry Road, Barnes, London in October, 1969, with Freddie Mercury on vocals, Richard Thompson on a practise pad, Mike Bersin on an unplugged electric guitar and John Taylor on an amplified bass, the tape has an approximate running time of ten minutes and reveals the group making several attempts to perform a Mercury composition called Green and the opening bars of another unidentified Mercury song [possibly «Blag-A-Blues»]. The tape is offerd for sale without copyright, broadcast rights, performers consents and other reproduction rights. The Buyer must apply to the relevent parties to obtain such clearance and consents as may be necessary.
Literature STUART, John S. and DAVIS, Andy «Queen Before Queen» - The 1960s Recordings... in The Record Collector Magazine, March 1996, No. 199, pp.55-56.
Lot Notes Richard Thompson, the drummer in this rehearsal session is responsible for the preservation of what has been described as «...the most important pre-Queen recording». The recording was made on a small Fidelity two-track recorder which Thompson had owned for about ten years. Thompson made the recording so that he could learn the song before the group's concert at Ealing College. Thompson recalls that the song Green had a «...straightforward 4/4 in the middle, but we needed to learn the beginning and end of it. It had a weird beginning. Most of Freddie's songs were like that...». John S.Stuart's and Andy Davis' review of this recording describe Green as «...a melodic, medium-paced ballad, whose tone recalls that obscure Queen delight "Mad The Swine" and ...some of the more reflective material [Mercury] wrote toward the end of his life...». This rehearsal session was apparently an extended one, Thompson was exhausted and Mercury had practically lost his voice, the group also had to consider the other flatmates in Ferry Road and as a result Mercury can be heard singing in a hushed manner...Mike Bersin can be heard strumming along on an unplugged electric guitar. Only John Taylor's bass is amplified, while Richard Thompson keeps time by tapping on a practise pad... the recording ends when a flatmate interrupts complaining that it is one o'clock in the morning.

Freddie Mercury's Rolls Royce
The car's last public appearance was at the London
premiere of We Will Rock You, having transported the Bulsara family
to the Dominion Theatre. It has been in occasional use and has
travelled less than 5,000 miles since Freddie's sister (the vendor)
acquired it.
The car comes with the Kleenex Mansize Tissues box that Freddie
kept in the car and is complete with the remaining (unused!!) tissues.
The Car is in the same visual condition as it was when Freddie
used it, but a modern alarm system (Cobra) has been added, and
the vehicle has been converted to run on unleaded petrol. The car
is in good condition, as you would expect for a car of this age
that has been looked after, but used. It has the odd small patch
of rust, mainly around the wheel arches and on the rear corners
of the chrome bumpers. It is in good running order, the engine
bay and undersides are clean and the bodywork is polished. The
interior is clean, no tears and the leather shows the patina of
age.

An autograph picture postcard, signed, [frankmarked Truro, Cornwall, 3.8.'71], the 17 lines written by Freddie Mercury in blue ballpoint pen to Denise Craddock, [a friend who was cat-sitting for him], telling her: «We're staying in this cottage in Devoran and there are a few kitties rushing around outside - so it's not too bad..., adding ...I've got to rush cause there's only one pen and I've got it, and Brian's at my throat...», signing off «...All the Best Freddie - Excuse Haste»; the obverse printed with a polychrome illustration entitled «King Arthur's Cornwall»
Literature HODKINSON, Mark Queen - The Early Years, London: Omnibus Press, 1995, pp.147-148 Deaky Chronicles - www.deaky.com
Lot Notes This postcard was sent to Freddie's address near London's Kensington Gardens, where Denise Craddock was looking after his cats, Tom and Gerry. Queen were doing a short tour of Cornwall at the time and rather than staying at Roger Taylor's family home in Truro, had rented a cottage close by in Devoran. This 11-date tour of Cornwall, organised by Roger Taylor, was a significant one for the group. It was the first tour they embarked on as Queen. In an interview, Deacon recalled: «...It was good because...we got to know each other really well and it settled us as a group...».

A rare set list in Freddie Mercury's hand, 1969, written in black ink on a sheet of lined paper, the 16 song titles include: «F.E.W.A. [Feelings Ended Worn Away] Lover... Vagabond Outcast Priestess ...Rock Me Stone Free Crossroads We're Goin' Wrong Steppin Out I'm So Glad... and Jailhouse Rock», each track given a projected 'time count' in a column on the right hand side of the page, a figure of «12» [minutes] added on to the final aggregate number and labelled «Dicking About Time...», the set list additionally annotated by Mike Bersin [lead guitarist with Ibex and Wreckage] with three cartoon heads, provides a fascinating insight into Freddie Mercury's influences at the outset of his career prior to Queen, 1p.
Literature HODKINSON, Mark Queen - The Early Years, London: Omnibus Press, 1995, pp.123-124.
Lot Notes According to the vendor, a friend then flatmate of Freddie Mercury in London in 1969, this early set list was written in the summer of 1969 in perparation for concerts by Ibex. Freddie joined Ibex at that time, shortly after leaving Ealing College of Art and it is generally regarded as being his: «..first proper group...».
It's interesting to note that the second title on this list - «Lover» was written by Freddie and according to Queen biographer Mark Hodkinson: «...later evolved into 'Liar', a track on Queen's debut album». Hodkinson describes it as: «...a fascinating example of the heartfelt, elegiac, but ultimately vacuous prose which most British bands, famous or not, were dispensing at the time....» The song titles listed here also reflect Freddie's admiration for contemporary artists such as Cream, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix and the King of Rock and Roll - Elvis Presley.
